Ketchikan City Guide

Famous for its salmon runs, Ketchikan is an angler's paradise. In fact, the city has been given the moniker of Salmon Capital of the World, a lofty title that the city's many fishing charter companies are eager to prove. While fishing is certainly the area's bread and butter, there are other exceptional activities and attractions to be experienced in Ketchikan. Sea kayaking the inlets and shoreline of Ketchikan is popular with those who enjoy the quiet of nature and the chance to get up close to sea life, including whales and orcas. For the more culturally minded, Ketchikan is also home to one of the largest collections of totem poles in the world, and a visit to Saxman Native Village is a visitor's best bet for viewing these iconic statues.
