Ed Oliveira Winery
In 1982, the late Ed Oliveira founded the Ed Oliveira Winery in Arcata as a small family winery. In 1983 Ed, along with Dean Williams, successfully petitioned the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to designate a 6000-acre Trinity River region as the Willow Creek Viticulture Area. Known for hearty "big oak" reds, Oliveira wines are produced from Dry Creek Valley and homegrown Willow Creek AVA grapes in the traditional style, pressed in an old wooden basket press and aged in fine French and American Oak Barrels. Tastings are limited to groups and by appointment only with winemaker Doug Oliveira.
Fieldbrook Winery
The Fieldbrook Winery, just inland from the Pacific coast in Northern California, is thirty miles south of Redwood National Park, where you find the tallest trees in the world. This same cool, even climate that produced these giant redwood forests is ideal for the natural fermentation and aging of premium varietal wines.
The grapes for their wines come from select vineyards in Trinity, Humboldt and Mendocino counties. Vineyards are chosen which represent both varietal identity and regional character. The winery normally produces about 1000 cases per year. Though small, the winery has earned distinction by winning many awards in state and national competitions.
The winery is operated by Robert Hodgson, a retired professor of oceanography, and his wife, Judy, the publisher of a local weekly newspaper, The North Coast Journal.

Heidrun Meadery
Heidrun Meadery is located in the remote Northern California coastal town of Arcata, just south of the Oregon border. Founded in 1997, commercial sales of their mead began in September of 1998. At that time, Heidrun Meadery was the only producer of naturally sparkling dry meads in the world.
Their new, state-of-the-art fermentation equipment was custom designed exclusively for the commercial production of sparkling meads crafted in the Heidrun style. The Meadery's present production capacity is just 1,800 cases per year, produced in individual batches of 50 cases. Their small production scale affords them the flexibility to experiment freely with different honey varieties and meadmaking methods.
