Northwest Upgrades Are Now Simple
Effective Mar 1, 2008, MVP and MVP Gold members no longer need electronic or paper First Class Upgrade certificates when requesting an upgrade on Northwest Airlines. By simply placing their elite Mileage Plan number in the reservation, our elite members will be placed on Northwest's auto-upgrade processor. If seats are available 24 hours prior to departure, the upgrade will clear automatically. No phone call to Northwest Airlines is required. When checking in for the flight, MVP and MVP Gold members will be advised if their seat has been upgraded. If a First Class seat was not available 24 hours prior to departure, our elite member would be placed on NW's airport standby list. If you have any questions, please call Mileage Plan Customer Care at 1-800-654-5669.
Travel is permitted within the 48 contiguous United States/Alaska or between the 48 contiguous United States/Alaska/Canada/Caribbean and Mexico. Upgrades are valid on Northwest flights 1-1799 or Northwest Airlink flights 1800-2099, 2700-3799, 4700-4799, 5600-5996.
Terms and Conditions:
- In order to qualify for a complimentary upgrade on NW-operated flights, the AS MVP or MVP Gold frequent flyer number must be in the PNR.
- Reservations that are booked, but not ticketed are not eligible for upgrading.
- AS MVP or MVP Gold members status may be used to upgrade a domestic portion of an International itinerary.
- Upgrades are not available on flights operated by Northwest Airlink or Northwest Affiliated airlines, except Northwest Airlink flights with a First Class cabin.
- The following fare types do not qualify for upgrades: charter, bulk, VUSA passes, VUSA fares, travel-industry free and reduced-rate or standby tickets, student, infant or child fares, companion offers and group fares. Upgrades are not valid when traveling on an award ticket.
- All upgrades are subject to First Class availability, and First Class seats are limited.
- If there are multiple NW, AS or CO Elites in the same PNR, the Elite members will be upgraded based on the LOWEST tier member status in the reservation. Example: If there was an NW Silver Elite and AS MVP Gold member in a single PNR, they would both be upgraded one day prior to departure, as if they were both AS MVP Gold members.
