Climate and Weather

The minimal fluctuation of temperatures between summer and winter months makes Hawaii an ideal location for year-round travel. Water temperatures in winter are about 74 degrees and 80 degrees in summer. June through September is generally drier and rain is more likely December through February.

Leeward and Windward Regions

Whatever the season, the leeward region of any island (the area sheltered from the prevailing winds, usually the west and south) is drier. The windward region of any island (the sides facing the prevailing winds, usually the east and north) gets more rain.

Hawaii's warmest months are August and September and its coolest months are February and March.

Hawaii Seasons

The Hawaiian Islands have only two seasons: summer - between May and October and winter- between November and April. However, the weather is mild and wonderful throughout the year.

Average Temperatures

In summer, average daytime high temperature is 85º F; in winter, it's 80º F. Ocean temperatures are always warm; trade winds keep the islands air conditioned and the humidity comfortable.
