Changes To Security Measures

Airport Security

Quart-sized bagTravelers are permitted to transport travel-size toiletry type of liquids, aerosols, and gels in their carry-on baggage provided all three of these rules are met:

  • The liquids, gels, and aerosols are in containers of 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less per container.
  • All containers are carried in a clear, transparent, re-sealable one (1) quart plastic baggie.
  • The closed, sealed baggie must be removed from the carry-on baggage and separately x-rayed.

Travelers may transport the following items in larger quantities provided they are removed from the carry-on baggage and separately declared to the TSA if they are not contained in a clear, transparent, resealable 1 quart size plastic bag and/or are over 3.4 ounces (100ml):

  • Baby formula/milk, juice, and baby food in small containers, providing an infant or small child is traveling
  • Prescription medicines (liquid and gel) with a name that matches the traveler's ticket
  • Essential other non-prescription medicines, to include saline solution and eye-care products such as eye drops and contact lens solutions
  • Liquids (to include juice), or gels for diabetic passengers who indicate a need for such items to address their medical condition

The following items are now permitted through security checkpoints:

  • One common lighter (standard Bic, Zippo, etc.) or one book of safety matches
  • Mothers traveling with or without their child are permitted to bring breast milk in quantities over three ounces as long as it is declared for inspection at the security checkpoint

Travel Tips for All Travelers:

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air strongly urge travelers to arrive at the airport 2 hours prior to departure. In addition to security checkpoint screening, passengers may experience additional random gate screenings prior to boarding, which could increase the risk of missed flights. To expedite the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening process, travelers are also advised to:

  • Reduce carry-ons by checking baggage.
  • Travel as lightly as possible.
  • If traveling on Horizon Air, use their convenient Ala Carte service.

To receive the latest information on your flight status via e-mail or text message, create a Flight Status Alert. We will notify you in the event of delays, early arrivals, and cancellations of Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air flights.
