Trip protection is the combination of travel insurance benefits and travel assistance services designed to provide you greater peace of mind and added protection when traveling. It's something that every traveler needs, no matter what type of trip they're taking.

Why should I purchase trip protection?

Trip protection insures your financial investment (up to the amount of your policy limits) should your trip be canceled or interrupted for a covered reason, as well as provide valuable assistance services.

What does trip protection cover?

Trip Cancelation/Interruption: Coverage provides financial protection for expenses related to trip cancelation or trip interruption caused by a covered reason. Trip Cancelation coverage provides reimbursement for prepaid, nonrefundable expenses, up to the amount of coverage purchased. Trip Interruption coverage offers reimbursement for the unused, nonrefundable portion of your trip and increased transportation costs for you to return home due to a covered reason. Some covered reasons are listed below:

  1. Serious and unforeseen illness, injury or death of you, a covered family member or traveling companions.
  2. Natural disasters or bad weather that result in the complete cessation of services by an airline, tour operator or cruise line for at least 24 consecutive hours.
  3. Employer termination if you have been with the same employer for at least three continuous years, and are terminated through no fault of your own after the effective date of this insurance.
  4. Fire, flood, burglary, vandalism or natural disasters making your home uninhabitable.
  5. Emergency Medical & Dental: Coverage provides benefits for emergency medical or dental expenses you incur during the coverage period. Services must be provided by a licensed provider and must take place during your trip. A $50 deductible applies to outpatient care.
  6. Emergency Medical Transportation: Pays for emergency medical transportation services, authorized in advance and organized by the Access America Hotline Center, and medically required as a result of an injury or illness which occurs during the coverage period, to have you moved to the nearest appropriate facility. Once you are able, we will also pay up to $5,000 to have you returned home.
  7. Travel Delay: Offers reimbursement to cover additional accommodation and travel expenses due to a delay of at least 6 hours. Covered reasons for travel delay include carrier caused delays (including bad weather) and unannounced strikes. Payments may not exceed $150 per day.
  8. Baggage Delay: Covers the reasonable additional purchase of essential items if your baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier for 24 hours or more. Receipts for emergency purchases are required.

Access America offers a 24-hour hotline staffed with multilingual specialists, trained to help travelers with emergency medical, legal or travel help. And should a medical emergency arise, we will coordinate medical assistance and emergency transportation.

Can I cancel my trip for any reason and get all my money back?

Within 10 days of purchasing the plan, Access America will process a full refund of premium to you, as long as you have not already departed on your trip or filed a claim. No refunds shall be paid to you after 10 days of purchasing the plan.

Trip Cancelation coverage will only refund prepaid, nonrefundable payments if you have to cancel for a covered reason. Covered reasons include sudden medical emergencies, death of a family member or traveling companion, certain terrorist acts or bad weather that completely shut down your common carrier, or being called for jury duty. Is my trip protection canceled automatically if I cancel my travel arrangements with Alaska Airlines?

No. Be sure to contact Access America directly to make any changes and/or cancelations to your trip protection. Our satisfaction guarantee allows you up to ten days from the purchase date of insurance to cancel your protection plan and receive a full refund of premium, as long as you have not already departed on your trip or filed a claim. No refunds shall be paid after the ten days.
