Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are committed to serving our communities by developing meaningful and enduring relationships with organizations representing diverse causes and concerns. In addition to our corporate giving programs, our employees give generously of their own time, talent, and treasure to a variety of organizations in the communities we serve. We encourage our employees to be involved in their communities by offering the following programs:
Dollars for Doers
Our employees are making a great difference in the communities we serve, and we want them to be acknowledged for their hard work. Our Dollars for Doers program does just that. Under this program, our employees are given $10 per hour by the company to be donated to the organization(s) for which they volunteer, up to $1,000 per year, per employee.
Matching Gift Program
Our Matching Gift Program brings the company and individual employees together in support of organizations our employees have strong relationships with. Under this program, Alaska and Horizon will match employee contributions to nonprofit institutions or organizations which meet our corporate giving guidelines.
Operation Air Care
Operation Air Care consists of the signature company-wide events sponsored annually by Alaska and Horizon to support community organizations through financial assistance and employee volunteerism.
One of our signature events is "Pack the Plane". The drive benefits over 20 local and regional food banks around our system each fall. In 2011, our third year of the drive, employees contributed over $39,000 in cash donations and collected 12,000lbs of groceries-- enough to pack our 737-Freigheter just over 7 times. For every $5 donation, a local food bank can purchase 32 pounds of food, which means our employees donated a combined amount of food and money that will provide over 180,000 meals to those in need in our communities.
Diversity Outreach
As a company, we are involved with hundreds of organizations and causes supporting and fostering diversity and inclusion in our communities, and in our world, such as: Out & Equal, Aids Walk, Make a Wish Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. We also coordinate our own outreach events such as our Eagle Flight Camps, which are held every summer to provide underprivileged students a chance to experience the aviation industry firsthand.
