Los Cabos Airport Closure

The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) has closed the Los Cabos International Airport due to significant damage sustained from Hurricane Odile. Alaska Airlines has cancelled all flights to Los Cabos through Monday, September 22, 2014.

Alaska Airlines has also ceased humanitarian flights at the direction of the DGAC and will resume normal commercial operations when the airport reopens. Please visit the Alaska Airlines blog to learn more about Alaska's humanitarian efforts or for the latest updates on the airport closure.

We realize you may still wish to reschedule your travel plans, even if your flight hasn’t been canceled. With that in mind, we are offering the following exceptions for customers who prefer to postpone or cancel their Los Cabos plans:

Event Travel To/From Tickets Purchased On/Before Original Travel Dates Exception Policy
Hurricane Odile Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD) September 14, 2014 September 14 - November 20, 2014 We will waive the change fees and the difference in the price of your ticket, if your new travel is booked in the same cabin. This applies to flights to Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guadalajara, or Mexico City tickets must be exchanged and travel completed on or before December 20, 2014.

If you would like to rebook your trip and travel after December 20, 2014, we will waive the change fees only for travel to Los Cabos. Tickets must be exchanged and travel completed by August 1, 2015.

You may also request a refund if you have chosen not to travel at all. Refunds must be requested by August 1, 2015.

Additional Information

  • Passengers with tickets scheduled for travel on the affected dates may request a full refund with no fee.
  • Unaccompanied Minors will not be accepted on flights to Los Cabos.
  • Pets shipped via Alaska Air Cargo will not be accepted on flights to Los Cabos.
  • Pets traveling with their passenger will be accepted.
  • Hotel/Food/Ground Transportation amenities will not be provided by Alaska Airlines.

Tropical Storm Polo Advisory

Tropical Storm Polo is currently off the West Coast of Mexico, south of Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo. We are monitoring the situation closely and will share any new information as soon as it becomes available.

We realize you may wish to reschedule your travel plans based on the potential impact of this storm. With that in mind, we are offering the following exceptions for passengers who prefer to postpone or cancel their plans:

Regional Advisories

San Francisco (SFO) Airport Terminal Change: Alaska Airlines has relocated to the International Terminal, Boarding Area A while Terminal 1 is remodeled. All flights, both domestic and international, will board out of concourse A. Alaska is relocating to make way for a complete rebuild of Boarding Area B and a new 24-gate facility planned for 2020. Once open, Alaska will move back into the remodeled terminal.

Travel from Canada: Passengers are experiencing longer than normal wait times at security checkpoints when departing from Canada. We recommend the following to help expedite the process through security lines and US Border Protection in Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG), and Vancouver (YVR).

  • Arrive at the airport for check-in at least 2 hours prior to scheduled departure at Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG), and Vancouver (YVR) airports.
  • Make sure you have your boarding pass and passport ready to present for verification at the security checkpoint and US Customs.
  • Know what items are prohibited to take through the checkpoint, you can check prohibited items at catsa.gc.ca/whatcanIbring.
  • Please visit our preferred provider, TravelDoc, to determine the documentation and visa requirements of your chosen destination.
