Whaling is a huge part of the local heritage, and this center looks at how boat crews hunted for these creatures and used other local wildlife to create essentials such as sealskin boats and heavy fur coats. There are also monthly events that celebrate traditional dancing and other Eskimo customs.
Across from the town's airport is this memorial dedicated to Will Rogers, famous American humorist, and Wiley Post, the first pilot to fly solo around the world. Their plane crashed nearby during poor weather conditions on August 15, 1935.
