Boston, Massachusetts Overview

Boston is one of America's most walkable cities, and the best way to explore the city's 21 vibrant, diverse neighborhoods is on foot. But, when you need a lift, buses, trains, and the subway - called the T - are always nearby.

Boston is also one of America's oldest cities, first incorporated in 1630 and known as a hotbed of revolutionary rhetoric in the late 1700s. It has since become the economic and cultural hub of New England, home to universities, hospitals, cultural organizations, and a couple of fairly good professional sports teams.

Start with a walk along the Freedom Trail, or through the historic Beacon Hill or Back Bay neighborhoods, then explore the rest of Beantown at your own pace. The city is home to some major cultural institutions that you won't want to miss, including the New England Aquarium, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the USS Constitution, an ancient ship first launched in 1797. Sporting types can visit historic Fenway Park for a Red Sox game, or treat themselves to a day of golf in the Boston area. And music enthusiasts can rock out at House of Blues Boston, or take in some more mellow music at Berklee Performance Center. Whatever your reason for visiting Boston, you're sure to be entertained.
