Orlando, Florida

You'll find Orlando in the wetlands of central Florida, surrounded by a chain of lakes. Old Orlando was mainly built on the shores of Lake Eola in the 1850s after the last Seminole War. People first discovered it as a vacation spot around the time of World War I. Walt Disney World opened in 1971, and catapulted Orlando onto the national travel radar screen.

Orlando may be known for its theme parks, but it has more than rides to offer its guests. Get lost in the citrus grove of the vigorous and inspiring 50-acre Harry P. Leu Gardens. Train like an astronaut, or just have lunch with one at the Kennedy Space Center. Blow off some steam and bowl a strike at the 1950s retro-themed Kings Bowl.

Grab a French onion cheeseburger and a side of roasted garlic truffle oil parmesan fries at the Treehouse food truck. Or, if you feel more adventurous, order up a piri-piri chicken prego from another food truck, the Portuguese-inspired Bem Bom. For a taste of real Orlando tradition, order the spicy chicken Louisiana Creole from Chatham's Place.
