Years ago, before paved floors, Spanish bar keeps would cover their drinks with a napkin to keep dust from falling into their customers' drinks. The napkins eventually evolved into small plates to hold food and from there, the food on top of the drink became known as "tapas".

Aldo's Italian Restaurant
Ristorante Aldo's is located at the former Copper Coffee Pot, where Santa Barbarans have been dining since 1927. The building dates back to the Janssens-Orella Adobe (1857), and is a city landmark in the National Register of Historic Places. Aldo's is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Dine outdoors in their heated fountain-courtyard or in their beautiful, classically-inspired dining room. Whether it is a relaxing glass of wine, a business lunch, a romantic dinner, or dessert and cappuccino after the show, you can be sure to receive excellent service and your meal will be prepared with great skill and care.

Arts & Letters Cafe
The Arts & Letters Café serves classic bistro fare in a beautiful courtyard setting in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. Our chef uses the freshest local ingredients to prepare soups, salads and sandwiches in the California cuisine tradition. The Café is also pleased to offer a fine selection of California wines and a full bar. The courtyard is the main dining area of the Arts & Letters Café. The seating capacity is limited to 100 people for a formal sit down event. Seventy of the seats are outside and 30 are in the adjacent De Forest Gallery. The garden was designed in the tradition of the walled gardens of Spain and Mexico. The central fountain fills the garden area with the sound of water. Whenever there is a chill, the garden is heated. Whenever the sun is too bright, umbrellas are brought to the tables. The De Forest Gallery (adjacent to the courtyard) is particularly well suited to private meetings and serves as a secondary exhibition space for Sullivan Goss.
