Things To Do In Whistler

Two mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, make up this world-famous ski resort. Side by side, they represent over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain rising a mile above the valley of Whistler. The combined areas also boast the highest vertical drop in North America and each mountain can be reached by gondola from Whistler Village.

Situated within walking distance from Whistler Village, the pristine park surrounding Lost Lake offers tranquil swimming in shallow waters, an accessible sandy beach, and nearly 100 kilometers of nature trails. In winter, 25 kilometers of the Lost Lake trails and adjacent golf course paths are converted to an extensive cross-country ski and snowshoe trail network.

Experience the glory of Olympic gold at this park, where many of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games were held. The park is open to visitors from late November until early April, and from late June to early September. In winter, visitors enjoy snowshoeing, skiing, target shooting at the biathlon range, and numerous Nordic competitions and special events.

The Whistler Sliding Centre is home to the fastest ice track in the world. Visitors are invited to tour the state-of-the-art facility, or experience the action first-hand with passenger bobsleigh and skeleton rides down part of the 1,450 meter-long ice track. During operating hours, the Excalibur Gondola provides public access from Whistler Village. Access to the Whistler Sliding Centre is free during non-event times.

The series of cliffs that composes Shannon Falls rise to over 1,000 feet in height, making this the third highest falls in all of British Columbia. Snacks, park information and souvenirs are offered at the park information center (adjacent to the bathrooms) located on the trail to the waterfalls.

These picturesque falls cascade from 141 feet above into Madely Creek in the Callaghan Valley. With paved road access and a large wheelchair-accessible viewing platform, this site makes a lovely daytime excursion.
