Cookhouse Cafe / / / 1 Cannery Rd, Bldg 7; 907/424-5920
All the charm that is Cordova can be found at this little cafe nestled on the dock between weathered warehouses looking out over Orca Inlet. Once the mess hall of the old cannery, Cookhouse Cafe has been restored to wood beams, white walls, and the gray-and-red trim of the traditional cannery colors. In the old days, when the steam whistle blew, cannery workers gathered for "mug ups"-coffee and pastries. The cafe has revived the tradition. Mainly geared to breakfast and lunch, the cafe also has special events. $$; MC, V; checks OK; breakfast, lunch every day; closed Oct-May; no alcohol; PO Box 120, Cordova, AK 99574; head north along 1st Ave until you spot the old canneries.
