  • Joshua Tree National Park

    If you're in the mood for a road trip, arrange car rental in Phoenix and head west on I-10 to get to Joshua Tree National Park. Take exit 168 off the highway and follow Cottonwood Springs Road towards Mecca Twentynine Palms to reach this famous desert park, which is known for its rugged rock formations, vast landscapes and the distinctively shaped trees that give it its name. It should take just over three hours to get there by car from Phoenix.

    Kofa National Wildlife Refuge

    Also situated west of Phoenix, Kofa National Wildlife Refuge can be reached via I-10, Vicksburg Road and Kofa Manganese Road. It offers a range of wildlife watching opportunities and nature trails, including the Palm Canyon trail, which leads into a canyon where you can see the California fan palm, the only native palm in Arizona. Look out for giant saguaro cacti, which can reach up to 50 feet in height, and some of the animals that live in this unique environment, like desert horned lizards, iguanas and kangaroo rats.

    Tucson

    Booking a Phoenix car rental will give you the opportunity to visit Arizona's other big cities, such as Tucson, which is located south-east of Phoenix and can be reached via the I-10. There is plenty to see and do in this city, like visiting the Mission San Xavier del Bac, which was established by Spanish Catholic priests in the 18th century, and exploring the recreated Western town of Old Tucson, which has been used as a location in numerous films.
