Why change now?

For more than 80 years, Alaska Airlines has built a fiercely loyal following by combining outstanding performance with genuine, caring customer service. We’ve been growing, expanding our routes, and continually improving our inflight products, but our outward brand expression has remained mostly unchanged since 1990. It’s time for a new chapter.

We want to make sure that the way we look and sound reflects the exceptional work of our employees, and the remarkable experiences they create for our customers every day. We’re excited, and we’re ready to show the rest of the world what our customers already know: we’re dedicated to understanding flyers, and to giving them the best experience possible.

What’s new, and when will I see it?

  • Aircraft – By the end of 2016, we plan to have 40 aircraft (around 20% of our total fleet) painted with the new design. We expect to have the entire fleet repainted within the next few years. Over the next two years, we’ll also be refreshing the interior of our aircraft.
  • Airports – Today, you’ll be able to see our new design at our largest hub, Seattle. Our goal is to update all 100+ of our airports by the end of 2016.
  • Mileage PlanTM – Beginning in the spring of 2016, Mileage Plan materials, including elite membership cards and the Mileage Plan section of alaskaair.com, will feature the refreshed brand.
  • Credit cards – Credit cards with the new brand design will be available in early summer 2016.
  • Uniforms – You’ll notice some subtle changes to our employees’ uniforms over the next two months.

What about my favorite products and services?

The way things look is changing, but our focus on our customers isn’t. You can expect the same great experiences with your favorite Alaska products and services, including Mileage Plan, our flight experience, Air Cargo, and alaskaair.com—they’ll just have a new, fresh design.

How has Alaska Airlines’ design evolved?

Who is the face on the tail?

The Eskimo first appeared on the tail of an Alaska Airlines airplane in the early 1970s as part of a new, four-logo paint scheme. Since then, he’s become a welcoming smile for those who fly with us—a symbol of our warm, caring service, and a topic of discussion and debate for those eager to solve the mystery of his identity. Will Horizon Air change, too?

Horizon Air will continue proudly flying for Alaska—and the Horizon–flown aircraft will feature the new livery design later in 2016.
