Alaska's Famous Companion Fare™ is offered to eligible Alaska Airlines Visa® cardholders (US), and the Alaska Airlines Visa® Business card (US). The companion fare entitles the cardholder to purchase one round-trip coach companion fare on Alaska Airlines from $122 (USD) ($99 base fare plus applicable taxes and fees from $23 depending on your flight itinerary) when traveling with another guest on a paid published coach airfare on the same itinerary, booked at the same time. Travelers are responsible for all applicable taxes, fees, surcharges and applicable checked baggage fees. The companion fare discount code is not valid with award travel, and cannot be combined with other discounts. Annual spend requirement may be required.

Can I upgrade to First Class with my companion fare?

Yes. When traveling on a companion fare, you are eligible for all upgrades we offer. You can upgrade using miles, elite + companion upgrades, guest upgrades, or paid upgrades that may be offered at check-in. You and your companion must travel together on the same reservation, in the same cabin, and upgrade space must be available for both guests.

We can’t separate guests traveling on a companion fare into separate cabins, or upgrade you at separate times. Except for the companion upgrade allowed for our Gold and 75K elite members, both guests must use the same type of upgrade. (For example, a guest upgrade and an upgrade using miles can’t be combined.)

Is there a spend requirement to receive my annual companion fare discount code?

On January 18, 2023, Bank of America and Alaska Airlines introduced enhanced benefits to the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card. For customers who have applied for our new enhanced product, there is a spend requirement of $6,000 or more on purchases within an anniversary year to qualify for the annual companion fare.

Bank of America has sent a letter about the program changes to existing impacted cardholders. If you’re enrolled in Online Banking or have the Mobile Banking app, you can find this letter in Statements and Documents.
