Can I redeem miles for anything besides air travel?

Currently, you may redeem Mileage Plan miles for:

  • Air travel on Alaska Airlines and most of our airline partners
  • Hotel stays with Alaska Airlines Hotels
  • Magazine subscriptions through our Magazines for Miles program.
  • Experiences, Events and more with Alaska Extras.
How do I go about using my miles for air travel?

Mileage plan miles are referred to as award travel, or award tickets, when redeemed for travel. Award tickets may be booked online for travel on Alaska Airlines and most partners. Currently, award travel on Cathay Pacific and LATAM can only be booked over the phone through our reservations call center. Please visit our airline partners section and check your preferred airline for booking instructions.

What kind of fees are associated with an award ticket?

Award travel is subject to applicable taxes and fees. For travel within the United States, this is generally limited to the September 11 security fee of $5.60 per one-way. For international travel, taxes may be significantly more.

You may be also be subject to one or more of the following service fees:
  • $15 nonrefundable call center booking fee — for new awards booked over the phone.
  • $12.50 nonrefundable partner award fee — applies to all awards using one of our airline partners per person, each way.
How do I make changes to my award ticket?

Most Mileage Plan award reservations may be changed online. Other award travel changes may be made through our reservations call center at 1-800-252-7522.

If you're unable to travel, you must notify us before the flight departs. If you do not, your trip will be canceled and your ticket value forfeited.

If I cancel my award ticket, will I get my miles back?

Yes. Once you have canceled your ticket your miles will go back into your account, and any taxes paid will be refunded. The call center booking fee, and the partner award fee are nonrefundable.

Money & Miles awards work a little differently. Because these are essentially discounts off of a purchased fare, the rules of the purchased fare apply. If you choose to cancel a Miles & Money award, the miles will be redeposited as above, but the monetary value of the ticket will only be refunded if you have purchased a refundable fare. Otherwise, you will receive the value of the unused ticket as a credit for future purchase.

Can I redeem miles for an upgrade?

Miles can be used to upgrade to First Class, subject to space availability. Fare class restrictions apply. Learn more here.

You cannot redeem miles for Premium Class; however, you may purchase a Premium Class seat when traveling on an award ticket. Main Cabin awards are eligible for complimentary upgrades upon availability based on elite status level and booking class.
