Schedule change policy

This policy only applies to tickets issued on Alaska Airlines' 027-ticket stock.

If there has been a schedule change involving your client's Alaska Airlines operated flight, Alaska will notify the booking agency via TTY message. If another airline's schedule change affects a flight booked on Alaska's 027-ticket stock, this policy applies for all affected flights sold on the same ticket. If the schedule change involves an Alaska Airlines' flight, booked on another airline’s ticket stock, please contact the validating carrier for assistance.

It is the booking agency's responsibility to acknowledge the schedule change, notify the passenger and clean up the record. This includes removing the changed segments and confirming the new segments. The ticket must be reissued or revalidated before the passenger can view their itinerary or check-in.

Alaska's definitions of schedule change

  • The cancellation of a scheduled flight where no AS flight of comparable routing is available within 60 minutes of the original time of departure
  • A change in the scheduled departure time of an AS flight which exceeds 60 minutes
  • A change in the routing of a scheduled AS flight which adds one or more stops to the original itinerary
  • A change in the routing of an AS scheduled flight that results in a scheduled arrival time more than 60 minutes later than the original scheduled arrival time
  • Any change in the arrival time of an AS flight that results in a misconnection to any flight shown in the same reservation and ticket

If the change to your client's ticket meets the definition for schedule change you may use the guidelines below to reprotect them on a new flight. If the change is minor and does not meet the schedule change definition, follow the guidelines for cleaning up a minor change.

Guidelines for reprotect due to schedule change on AS flights

  • Book the new flights for the day before, same day or day after, the original travel.
  • Rebook on AS operated or AS* codeshare flights only.
  • Book in the original class of service if possible.
  • If the original class of service is not available, book the lowest available class of service, in the same cabin.
  • Book identical routing if possible. It's okay to add or subtract a connection point or use co-terminals when necessary.
  • Place the waiver code "ASSC" in your tour code box to avoid charging a change fee or add collect. Only one reissue with the waiver, per itinerary change, is permitted. Once reissued, future changes will be considered voluntary, normal fare rules apply.
  • Add an OSI message to explain the reaccommodation.
    • OSI AS REISSUE DUE TO SCHEDULE CHANGE AS123 SEALAX 10JAN14
  • Add an OSI message to confirm that the passenger has been notified of the changes.

Guidelines for reprotect due to schedule change on AS* or other airline flights

  • Book the new flights for the day before, same day or day after, the original travel.
  • When the change involves other carriers: re-book the original carrier or choose an AS operated / AS* codeshare flight in the same market. If there are no acceptable options to reprotect contact our inside sales desk for assistance.
  • Flights originally sold as AS* codeshare must be re-booked as AS* codeshare unless the customer chooses a true AS flight. Do not reprotect from an AS* codeshare to the operating carrier's true flight number.
  • Book in the original class of service only.
    • OSI AS REISSUE DUE TO SCHEDULE CHANGE AA1195 MIALAX 10JAN16
  • Add an OSI message to confirm that the passenger has been notified of the changes.

Refunds due to schedule change or irregular operations

  • As a last resort, a refund can be offered when the changes meet the above definition of schedule change. This applies for both AS and other airline schedule changes, affecting a 027 ticket.
  • The "ASSC" waiver code must be included on the REN (ARC Refund Exchange Notice).
  • Add OSI documentation explaining the reason for the refund and the ASSC waiver code must also be added to the record.
    • OSI AS REFUND DUE TO SCHEDULE CHANGE AS123 SEALAX 10JAN16

Minor schedule changes

Minor schedule changes include: changes to the flight number only, no change in routing, do not result in a missed connection and itinerary changes of less than an hour from original departure and arrival. Any change that does not meet the definition of schedule change above is considered to be minor and would not qualify for further reprotect options.

Guidelines for cleaning up a minor change

  • Reissue or revalidate to confirm the new flights.
  • Place the waiver code "ASMC" in your tour code box to avoid charging a change fee or add collect.
  • Add an OSI message to explain the reaccommodation.
  • Add an OSI message to confirm that the passenger has been notified of the changes.
  • If your client has experienced a minor schedule change and is not satisfied with the new flights, all fare rules will apply for any additional changes.
