General Guest Pass Questions

Who should I contact if my question is not answered in this document?

Contact the employee who gave you the Guest Pass Certificate.

Where can I travel on a Guest Pass?

Guest Passes are valid for travel system wide on Alaska Airlines and flights operated for Alaska Airlines by Horizon Air, and SkyWest.

How do I use my Guest Pass Discount Code?

Your Guest Pass Discount Code can be used on alaskaair.com to purchase a reduced fare standby ticket. Go to www.alaskaair.com and enter your Discount Code in the "Discount Code" field. This allows you to view flights and discounted fares as well as flight availability when shopping. You can only purchase tickets 90 days or less from your desired date of travel.

What does a 'standby' ticket mean?

A standby ticket means you do not have a confirmed seat on your desired flight. Standby travel is on a space available basis. If there are extra seats available at the time of boarding a customer service agent will call your name and you will be allowed to board the plane. If there are no seats left on the plane, you can be placed on a standby list for the next flight.

What should I wear?

The dress code on both Alaska and Horizon is casual, and the requirement is simply a neat and well-groomed appearance. Clothing that is soiled or tattered and bare feet are never acceptable. You are expected to use good judgment, but customer service agents will have the final authority to refuse travel for inappropriate attire or appearance.

What else should I know?

At all times, within hearing of confirmed passengers, GP passengers should refrain from mentioning that they are traveling on a special fare or other privileged discount.

The Company will not reimburse costs of transportation purchased on Alaska, Horizon or other airlines, or related expenses incurred by GP passengers encountering travel delays, nor will the GP passenger be eligible for meal or hotel expenses or any type of Denied Boarding Compensation. In the event of flight interruption or non-routine operation, GP passengers will not be accommodated on another airline.

At the Airport

When do I need to be at the gate and when will my seats be assigned?

Standby travelers must be checked in and available to board at the designated boarding gate at least 40 minutes before posted departure for all flights. Allow sufficient time for screening at security check points and to reach distant boarding gates. Standby passengers are cleared for the flight and given seat assignments once all confirmed passengers have checked-in. Please remain in the gate area and wait for your name to be called. Failure to do so may cause the gate agent to bypass your name when assigning seats.

What do I do if I’m asked to deplane after boarding the aircraft?

In rare instances after boarding, a Guest Pass passenger may be asked to deplane to provide a seat for a confirmed passenger or for a standby passenger with a higher boarding priority. If asked to leave the aircraft, please do so quickly and without comment.

What should I do if I’m not assigned a seat?

Every effort will be made to accommodate you on your choice of flights, however our confirmed passengers have priority over standby passengers. If you choose to stand by for a later flight, advise the gate agent so they can activate you on the standby list for the next available flight.
