At Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, we are thankful for the sacrifices that military members and their families make during their service to our country. To help make travel a bit easier for you, we offer a special military fare.

How does the military fare work?

We offer military fares to active duty military personnel and their dependents in some markets. Check the rules below to see if you’re eligible for these fares.

This special military fare is only available when purchasing your ticket by phone.

To buy tickets and see if the rate is available where you’ll be flying, please contact Alaska Airlines Reservations or Hawaiian Airlines Reservations for assistance.

Who is eligible to fly using a military fare?

This fare applies to US military personnel who are:

  • Traveling on an official excused absence
  • Discharged from active duty military service in any one of the US military agencies. Discharged military personnel must complete all travel within 7 days of discharge.
  • Military reserves on active duty

The fare also applies to these immediate family members of US active duty military personnel:

  • Spouse/dependents 10 or older with dependent ID
  • Children (aged 2-9) of active duty US military personnel

What other rules apply to this military fare?

Military personnel traveling with a military fare must:

  • Present a valid active duty Armed Forces of the United States Identification Card or, separation papers for travel within 7 days of discharge from active military service.

Military personnel family members traveling with a military fare must:

  • Be a legal dependent of the military personnel.
  • Present proper identification and documentation at check-in.
  • Military dependents 10 or older must present a white Uniform Services Dependent Identification and Privilege Card marked “active” at check-in.
  • If a spouse, child, or dependent's name is different than the military passenger, additional documentation to prove dependency may be needed.

Here are a few more details that apply:

  • Discharged military personnel must complete all travel within 7 days of discharge.
  • The fare does not apply to military personnel who are on temporary duty orders traveling to/from their temporary duty stations, or to retired personnel.
  • The discount is valid on flights operated by Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and flights operated on behalf of Alaska Airlines by Horizon and SkyWest.
  • This fare discount only applies to new tickets purchased through a Reservations team member.
  • All rules associated with the fare are applicable.
  • All fees associated with the fare are applicable, including change and name transfer fees.
  • Instant ticketing is required
