How is Saver fare different than Main Cabin?

Saver fare includes many travel benefits of Main cabin, with some restrictions. Seats are assigned at check-in, fewer points are earned for your travel, and flight cancels are limited.

Order before you fly on Alaska Airlines.

Pick a meal you're sure to love. Use food pre-order to choose your entree or pick a fruit and cheese plate up to 20 hours before your flight. Available on most Alaska flights over 670 miles.

Pre-order food is not yet available on Hawaiian Airlines; however, complimentary meal options are available on International and North America flights. Additionally, buy-on on board items are available on select flights.

Limitations

Saver fares do include some limitations on booking, refunds, changes, and seat selection.

  • Seats will be assigned at check-in.
  • We can't guarantee that parties of two or more will be seated together.
  • Same-day confirmed changes allowed for a fee. Other changes are not allowed.
  • No standby is allowed for Saver fares, even for Atmos Rewards status guests.
  • If a guest is a no-show for any flight during a trip, all other flights within that trip are automatically canceled, with no refund available.
  • Saver fares cannot be combined with any other fare types on the same itinerary.
  • Saver fares are non-transferable.

Purchasing

How do I purchase a Saver fare?

Saver fares are available from both Alaska and Hawaiian, on the web, on the phone, or with select travel agencies. Saver fares are available on selected routes and may not be available on all flights; Saver fare inventory may be limited.

Can I change, cancel, or refund a Saver fare?
Saver fares are eligible for a 50% credit if canceled at least 14 days before departure of the first flight on the ticket. No other changes or refunds are allowed to Saver fares outside of our 24-hour cancellation policy and same-day confirmed policies.

Same-day confirmed changes allowed for a fee. Same-day standby not allowed on Saver fares, regardless of Atmos Rewards status.
How do I know I have a Saver ticket?

Saver tickets appear as fare class (X) on your flight confirmation details.

Seating

When will I be able to choose my seat?

You will be assigned a seat when you check in. Or treat yourself by purchasing an upgrade to First Class, Premium Class, or Main Preferred and select your seat in advance.

Will I be able to sit with my friends?

Saver seating is limited, and we cannot guarantee that groups will sit together. We don't recommend the Saver fare for parties of two or more. Instead start your party early, by purchasing an upgrade to First Class, Premium Class, or Main Preferred and select your seat in advance.

Can I purchase a seat in Premium Class with a Saver fare?

Yes.

Purchase Premium Class at any time—here's how to upgrade yourself:

  • As you first book your flights
  • After you've purchased your flights, use the manage reservation tool to change your seat to Premium Class
  • While checking in for your flight online, on our app, or in person with an Alaska customer service agent
  • Atmos™ Silver, Atmos™ Gold, Atmos™ Platinum, and Atmos™ Titanium members are eligible for complementary upgrades to Premium Class and added to the upgrade waitlist starting 2 hours prior to departure.

Note: If you purchase a Premium Class seat with a Saver fare, Saver fare restrictions still apply.

Can I upgrade to First Class on a Saver fare?

Yes.

Purchase First Class at any time—here's how to upgrade yourself:

  • As you first book your flights
  • After you've purchased your flights, use the manage reservation tool to change your seat to First Class
  • While checking in for your flight online, on our app, or in person with an Alaska customer service agent
  • Atmos™ Silver, Atmos™ Gold, Atmos™ Platinum, and Atmos™ Titanium members are eligible for complementary upgrades to Premium Class and added to the upgrade waitlist starting 2 hours prior to departure.

Note: If you purchase a First Class seat with a Saver fare, Saver fare restrictions still apply.

Upgrades with points are not currently available.

Can I get a refund for my Premium or First Class seat?

Once purchased, no refunds are allowed for Premium Class seat purchases or First Class paid upgrades.

How is seating assigned for unaccompanied minors flying on a Saver fare?

Check-in/boarding

What happens if I don't get a seat assignment when I check in?

If you don't get a seat when you check in, your seat will be automatically assigned at the gate.

When do Saver ticket holders board the aircraft?

Saver fare ticket holders board last, in boarding group F.

What happens if I miss my flight?

If you miss your flight while traveling on a Saver fare, all segments on your itinerary will be automatically canceled and the total fare will be forfeited.

If my seat is in Premium Class or First Class, do I still board last?

If you purchased a Premium Class seat or a paid upgrade to First Class, you may board the aircraft according to your seat selection.

Note: Check your boarding pass for your boarding group.

Baggage/carry-ons

What's my carry-on allowance with a Saver fare?

The carry-on allowance is the same as Main fares.

Note: Saver fare holders board the aircraft last (Group F). Overhead bin space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What's my checked baggage allowance with a Saver fare?

The checked baggage allowance is the same as Main fares. For more information, see our checked baggage policy.

Accessibility services

I have a disability that limits my seating options when I travel. Can I still purchase a Saver ticket?

Yes. Certain seats are reserved for guests with disabilities. Call reservations after you've booked your flight to request a seat assignment. Your request must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled flight.

I need additional time and assistance to board the flight. Can I still pre-board with a Saver fare?

Yes. Notify the gate agent if you need additional time to board the aircraft.

I use a collapsible wheelchair or other assistive medical device. Can I carry it on with a Saver fare?

Yes. You may carry your assistive device aboard. For more information, see accessible travel services.

For Atmos Rewards members

Will I earn points on a Saver fare?

Yes, Saver fares will earn 30% of the actual points flown.

As an Atmos Rewards status member, what benefits do I receive on a Saver fare?

You may board according to your status. Baggage fees are still waived according to your status, and you'll receive the same refreshments and inflight entertainment. Existing status bonuses apply.

Note: All other Saver rules and restrictions apply. Saver fare cancel, change, or refund policies apply for all elites who purchase a Saver fare.

Am I eligible for complimentary upgrades on a Saver fare?

Status holders with Saver fares are eligible for complimentary upgrades to Premium Class seating or First Class within 2 hours prior to departure only, if available.

Can I use a Money and Points award to book a Saver fare?

No, you cannot use the Money and Points award with a Saver fare.

Flight delays, cancellations, and schedule changes

What happens if I'm flying on a Saver fare and my flight is delayed or canceled?

If your flight is delayed or canceled, you will be provided the same choices as a guest on a Main fare. See our customer service commitment for more details.

What happens if I book a Saver fare and then Alaska changes my itinerary or reschedules the flight?
