Plan a trip to Seattle
Seattle is a city that blends bold innovation with the beautiful natural surroundings under the watchful eye of Mt. Rainier. Founded in 1851 as a lumber town, it has grown into a hub for tech, art, and culinary creativity. It is now home to global tech giants like Microsoft, indie musicians, and visionary chefs alike. But what truly sets Seattle apart is how seamlessly the outdoors flow into urban life. You can kayak on Lake Union by morning, sip fresh-roasted coffee downtown by afternoon, and watch the sun set behind the Olympic Mountains by evening. It’s a city of contrasts and connections—and there’s no place quite like it.
Things to do in Seattle
- Wander through Pike Place Market, where fresh fish, flowers, and handmade goods fill the air with color and scent.
- Take in sweeping views of the skyline, Mount Rainier, and the Space Needle from Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill.
- Paddleboard or kayak across Lake Union for a fresh perspective on the city.
- Join the rowdy fans at a Seattle Seahawks or Mariners home game.
- Explore the Seattle Art Museum and its waterfront Olympic Sculpture Park with views of Elliott Bay.
- Ride a ferry across Puget Sound to the San Juan Islands for whale watching, biking, and local cider tasting.
- Stroll around Green Lake or hike one of the nearby trails for a dose of urban-accessible nature.
Best time to travel to Seattle
The best time to visit Seattle is from late spring through early fall (May to September), when the weather is mild, skies are clearer, and the city’s parks, festivals, and waterfront shine. Summer days are long and perfect for hiking or ferry rides, while fall brings crisp air and vibrant foliage. Winters tend to be rainy, but they’re also cozy—perfect for exploring museums, coffee shops, and indoor markets.
Getting from Sea-Tac to Seattle and nearby areas
Sea-Tac Airport sits about 14 miles south of downtown Seattle, and the easiest way into the city is the Link light rail. The SeaTac/Airport Station is a short covered walk from baggage claim across the skybridge on the fourth floor of the parking garage, and trains reach downtown’s Westlake Station in about 38 minutes, departing every 8 to 15 minutes for most of the day. Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are available on the third floor of the parking garage and typically reach downtown in 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Shared and private shuttle vans, along with rental cars served by free 24/7 shuttles from baggage claim, round out the options, making it easy to reach destinations across the Puget Sound region.
