Best time to travel to and visit Glacier Bay National Park
The best time to visit Glacier Bay is during the summer months, from late May through early September. This is when the park is most accessible, with long days, mild temperatures, and active wildlife. Cruise ships and tour boats operate during this season, giving visitors the best chance to see calving glaciers and marine life. Spring and early summer (May to June) are excellent for birdwatching and spotting humpback whales as they arrive in the bay, while late summer (July to August) brings warmer weather and peak glacier viewing. By September, the days grow cooler and quieter, offering fewer crowds and the chance to see fall colors before winter sets in.
