Travel to/from Japan

Japan fuel surcharges

Airlines apply fuel surcharges on international passenger tickets. These surcharges apply to flights operated by the airline as well as those operated by partner airlines under the same flight code.

Regarding the fuel surcharge for flights between Japan and North America or Hawaii, the yen equivalent of Singapore kerosene between December 2024 and January 2025, which serves as the benchmark for the review, was JPY 14,102. This amount exceeds the applicable standard of JPY 6,000, so the fuel surcharge will be applied to tickets issued between April and May 2025. If the two-month market average falls below JPY 6,000 per barrel, this surcharge will not be applied.

Airport check-in
Check in and access your boarding pass via the Alaska Airlines mobile app, on alaskaair.com, or print your boarding passes at home. If you're checking bags, you'll use our new bag tag stations to print bag tags, add a bag, or pay for your checked baggage. If you are unable to obtain your boarding pass before arriving at the airport, please see an agent for a paper version. Learn more about our streamlined lobby experience.
Seasonal baggage limits
During peak travel periods, we limit the number of bags that can be checked by each passenger to and from some locations. Review our Seasonal baggage limits page for which cities have a baggage restriction in effect.
