Mexico tourism taxes

Electronic invoicing | Facturación Electronica Mexico CFDI

In compliance with Mexico's recent electronic invoicing requirements, Alaska Airlines can provide an electronic invoice (CFDI) for the following taxes:

  • Transportation tax - IVA (international) (XO)
  • Miscellaneous charges tax - IVA (MX)
    Baggage, excess baggage, upgrade fee, etc.

Please have the following information available:

  • Ticket number
  • Tax ID number/RFC (passenger or company that will use the CFDI for fiscal deduction purposes)
  • Passenger or company name/Razón Social
  • Mexican fiscal address
  • Confirmation number/PNR
  • Date of sale

Mexico Tourism Tax refunds

If your itinerary involves travel between the US and Mexico (including travel between Canada and Mexico via the U.S.) and you meet the applicable criteria for exemption, you may be entitled to a refund of the Mexico Tourism Tax (UK) and/or the Mexico Airport Departure Tax (TUA) (XD) included in the price of your ticket. All refund claims must be submitted within 12 months of ticket issuance.

Mexico Tourism Tax (UK) exemptions:

  • Mexican citizen (passport)
  • Resident of Mexico (permanent or temporary) holding a Mexico visa
  • Infant under the age of two
  • Diplomat
  • Transit/transfer passenger remaining less than 24 hours in Mexico (passengers stopping over in Mexico are not entitled to a refund)

Mexico Immigration Fee (S1) Exemptions:

  • Infant under the age of two
  • Diplomat (does not include staff of U.S. Embassy in Mexico)
  • Deportee
  • Transit/transfer passenger remaining less than 24 hours in Mexico (passengers stopping over in Mexico are not entitled to a refund)

Mexico Airport Departure Tax (TUA) (XD) Exemptions:

  • Infant under the age of two
  • Diplomat (does not include staff of U.S. Embassy in Mexico)
  • Deportee
  • Transit/transfer passenger remaining less than 24 hours in Mexico (passengers stopping over in Mexico are not entitled to a refund)

If you believe you are entitled to a refund of any of these taxes, please present your documentation to a customer service agent when you check in at the airport. Our customer service agent will initiate a refund request for you. Or, you may mail or fax copies of the documents, along with your ticket number or confirmation code to:
